Night Shirt, P. Le Moult, France
J. Peterman lovers, BUCKLE UP.
Eugène Le Moult (1882–1967) was a real French naturalist, explorer, entomologist, businessman, and arguably the most famous butterfly hunter of his era. He grew up in French Guiana, hunted butterflies in the Amazon, employed teams of collectors, supplied museums and private collectors around the world, and eventually built one of the largest butterfly collections on earth. His adventures were famous enough to be featured in both Paris Match and Tintin.
The patterns and silhouettes are inherited directly from garments he wore while moving between French Guiana, Paris, ocean liners, tropical heat, jungle expeditions, and Atlantic crossings. The clothes had to be practical enough for extreme humidity and travel while remaining elegant enough for the social conventions of the early 20th century.
